The Marin Bobcat is one of our best selling bikes and also one of our most upgraded bikes when people want to upgrade the drivetrain (to a 1x) and also the fork (to an air fork). We decided to build up some so they are ready to go and no need to upgrade!
We upgraded the drivetrain to a Microshift Acolyte 1x8 drivetrain (w/ a clutch). 12-46T rear cassette, Acolyte shifter, KMC Z8.1 chain. We then upgraded the crankset to a SRAM SX DUB crankset w/ DUB bottom bracket (lighter than the Bobcat 4 crankset which has a square tapered bottom bracket). Usually this 1x drivetrain upgrade with the 4 piece drivetrain and Crank and Bottom bracket would run about $300- $330 installed.
We then swapped out the heavy Suntour Coil fork to a Rockshox Judy 120mm fork for nice smooth air travel instead of the stiff coil found on the stock fork. Usually the Judy air fork upgrade runs about $200-215 installed.
